Baptism - In asking to have your child Baptized you are accepting the responsibility of training your child in the practice of the Roman Catholic Faith.  The first step in this upbringing is participation in the life of the Parish.  Godparents who are to help the parents in this duty must also regularly practice their Catholic faith,  belong (be registered) to their own local parish and be able to obtain a sponsor letter from their pastor.
